Empire State Building Turns 'Blood Red' To Celebrate Trump Victory In GOP Primary

Special lighting effect... or sign of the end times?

After the polls in New York closed on Tuesday night, the Empire State Building turned a deep red to indicate Donald Trump had won the Republican primary:

Then, a little later, it turned dark blue for Hillary Clinton's victory in the Democratic primary.

The system had been set up by CNN, with different shades of red for the Republicans and two shades of blue for Clinton and her rival, Bernie Sanders.

But on Twitter, it was the red that caught everyone's eye.

And what a red it was.

Several users saw a resemblance between the red Empire State Building and the Eye of Sauron from "The Lord Of The Rings."

There were far fewer comments on Clinton's blue, but one user predicted dire events from either color:

And one user suggested all the shades of red and blue were wrong:
