24-Year-Old Fighting Drug Addiction Confronts Her Dad For 'Enabling Her'

Twenty-four-year-old Andee has been using drugs since she was 14 and has been in and out of rehab numerous times, but she struggles to remain sober. After recently completing 90 days of rehab, she relapsed and is now using heroin and drinking to excess. She claims that her father gives her money, which she uses to buy the drugs and alcohol.

“When I was living with my dad, I relapsed on heroin. I started shooting heroin. I was drinking almost every night,” she says. “This sucks. I’m 24 years old, and I don’t know what the hell is wrong with me. I’ve been through AA, I’ve been through eight treatment centers – I just want to know what’s going on. Why is this happening again?”

Dr. Phil asks Andee, “What do you think is driving you?”

“I think I’m really depressed. I don’t know what to do with myself. I don’t know how to get better,” she says in the video above.

Dr. Phil asks Andee about the money she gets from her father. “[Your father] says he got receipts from you every time, kept them, nailed them down so he knew that you weren’t using the money for drugs.”

“No, that’s not true,” Andee says.

Her father, Ed, admits that in the past he gave Andee money to buy drugs, but maintains that recently, he has only given Andee money on a few occasions and always got receipts to keep track of where she was spending it.

“I would go drink every, single night, and I would get money from you,” Andee says, noting that she never gave him any receipts.

“You’re lying,” Ed says.

Dr. Phil asks Ed, “Do you think you are helping or hindering her in her efforts to control this addiction?”

“Hindering. It’s becoming quite obvious,” he says.

“I’m not talking about your intention, I’m talking about the result,” Dr. Phil explains to Ed. “Whether it’s once, five times, eight times – she is telling you that if you give her money, it’s going in her arm, or it’s going up her nose, or she’s going to drink herself to oblivion.”

An all-new season of Dr. Phil premieres September 14!
