It's a simple idea: jumpstart the economy by helping small businesses grow and hire again.

How do we do it? By passing the "Small Business Jobs Relief Act of 2010".

The bill, currently being blocked by Senator Richard Burr and his Republican friends in Washington, provides tax breaks to small business owners and creates a program that gives funds to community banks to lend out to small businesses. It is completely paid for, and the Independent Community Bankers of America estimate this bill will create over 500,000 jobs!

But Senator Richard Burr and his Washington buddies are blocking it to score cheap political points.

It's one thing after another in Washington. The disconnect is staggering at times.

I met with small business owners in Wilmington just last week and listened to their concerns and their needs in this economy. Too many of them told me they wanted to expand business, and wanted to start hiring - but could not secure a loan to do so.

This bill helps to alleviate that problem, and it's high time it passes the Senate.

Burr didn't have a problem bailing out the Wall Street banks that fund his campaign.

But when a bill comes along that will create jobs and help small businesses get back on their feet, Burr is standing in the way - and here's the thing: it needs just one more vote to pass in the Senate to be signed by President Obama. The problem is leaders like Senator Burr - and they need to hear from us!

I know we can do better than this - I hope you'll join me in this fight.
