It is beautiful how the natural cycles of our planet remind us of the universal laws that govern all of life. Twice each year on the Equinoxes we experience equal daylight and night. Summer, with its long days, beckons us to sleep less and venture out. Winter, with its long nights, encourages us to sleep more and focus inward. Equinox is the midpoint between the two, asking us to find the center and walk in balance. This year, inspired by 2012, as we experience a world in political, environmental, economic and social turmoil, the call to find balance is more important than ever. The need to cultivate peace in order to bridge the divides that separate us is at an all-time high. Thankfully hundreds of organizations all over the planet are coming together to create an event called "Be The Peace" on September 21 in honor of the Fall Equinox.

We humans love the technology we create. Whether it is cell phones, computers, or airplanes, all of these advanced technologies came from within us collectively as a species. Perhaps it is time that we recognize that we, as human beings, ARE the technology we need in order to create the changes we desire? Instead of looking to politicians, institutions, and the mechanical inventions of our external world, maybe we should look within ourselves? 2012 seems like an appropriate time to do this, and the Equinox might just be the perfect day for it! Meditation and prayer events are being scheduled to occur simultaneously around the globe in hundreds of communities. Visit the website to see if there is an event in your area, or you can create your own.

In February of 2011, Jeane Ball wrote a wonderful article called, "Collective Consciousness and Meditation: Are We All Interconnected by an Underlying Field?" where she gives many examples to back the idea that our thoughts collectively can change the reality around us. The organizers of "Be The Peace" are taking the idea one step further by inviting the whole world to consciously focus on creating the peace that we all need so badly for our planet.

Organizations like Elevate, who helped to make the groundbreaking film Thrive go viral; Medmob, who specializes in meditation flashmobs; the youth organization, Amala Foundation; The Institute of Heartmath; The Gaiafield Project, and many others have all come together to host this international day of meditation for peace on Friday, September 21, 2012.

This is a people-powered event, so it is up to you to participate and help spread the word! There is also a Fanpage, and individuals are invited to tell their friends and family through e-mail, or social networks like Twitter and Facebook.

So wherever you may be on this Equinox, take a moment to feel the balance between night and day, become the peace that you wish to see in the world. Take a moment to learn about this very special event and tell your friends. It is through our collective love for life and the planet that we will heal and the time is upon us to act now. Happy Fall Equinox!
