Eric Trump apparently thinks talk show host Ellen Degeneres is part of the so-called deep state.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trumpâs second son shared a screenshot of Twitterâs suggestions for accounts he may like to follow. They included his fatherâs 2016 Democratic election rival Hillary Clinton, former President Barack Obama and DeGeneres.
Shocking... once again, here are the @Twitter âsuggestionsâ of who I should follow. #DeepState pic.twitter.com/6XYUS02j34

The âdeep stateâ conspiracy theory, which has been repeatedly pushed by the president, revolves around the idea that a deep-rooted civil service is working to delegitimize his administration. Itâs unclear whether Eric Trump was claiming that Clinton, Obama and DeGeneres were part of the âdeep state,â but his post prompted widespread ridicule:
Apparently Ellen is part of the "Deep State. @TheEllenShow can you tell us where you were when Kennedy was assassinated? https://t.co/ntzggx88ij
— Mean Mr. Mustard (@HoratioMustard) January 3, 2018
This is the most unintentionally hilarious tweet of the very very new year!
— Christopher Jasinski (@analyticswonk) January 3, 2018
Not proud to admit this, but I would pay $20 to sit with Eric Trump for ten minutes and have him explain Ellen DeGeneres' shadowy role in the Deep State.
— Tod Kelly (@RTodKelly) January 3, 2018
Ellen DeGeneres is now part of the "deep state".đ https://t.co/pI0XPInpBh
— Drew (@SenhorRaposa) January 3, 2018
Yes, Ellen DeGeneres of the deep state. The very same.
— Advertise Here (@youradhereDMme) January 3, 2018
Does the Deep State include Ellen DeGeneres? Shocking.
— Janis Peterson-Lord (@SpecialRider) January 3, 2018
Ellen is deep state, y'all lol https://t.co/A7XEIi3uN9
— Angry Homo Anarchist đłïžđ (@ncanarchist) January 3, 2018
Ellen DeGeneres and two people not in office = âThe Deep State.â
— Teresa (@TeresaKopec) January 3, 2018
Eric really is the dumbest Trump. https://t.co/5JtSAHHs7n
Eric, there is no Deep State, but your dad says the Deep State comprises non-presidentially appointed civil servants who serve in multiple administrations. Obama and Clinton, by definition, cannot be members of the Deep State. As for Ellen, are you daft?
— Sybill Trelawney (@SybilT2) January 3, 2018
Yes. Ellen. You got her.
— Todd Zeigler (@Doctor_Whaaa) January 3, 2018
Itâs over, everyone! Eric caught us. https://t.co/iZVlAqPcE1
theyâre just trying to help you man⊠gain some perspective. this world is more complicated than dad taught you.
— Thomas Paine â (@TomPaineToday) January 3, 2018
Hi Eric, I know youâre not the smart one, but Twitterâs algorithm looks at who you searched for most recently when making suggestions. It looks like you might have recently searched for a Democrat, buddy.
— Matt Clendineng (@mattclen2) January 3, 2018
You do realize none of the 3 recommends are employed by any state, deep or otherwise? In other news, thereâs actually no mister under your bed either.
— Camille Kimball (@CamilleKimball) January 3, 2018
Yea that Twitter algorithm is crazy. Why on earth would it suggest you follow the people you tweet most about!?!?
— Marco (@marcorecio) January 3, 2018
Hey numb nuts. Itâs derived from who you follow.
