RedState Editor-in-Chief Erick Erickson said he had “made the right decision” disinviting Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump from a conservative gathering, pointing to the vitriol coming from the reality TV star’s supporters.

“I would like to read for you the emails that I am getting from Donald Trump supporters,” Erickson said at the RedState Gathering over the weekend. He then went on to read some of the hate mail he’d received since announcing his decision.

A smattering (note Erickson replaced some of the profanities with euphemisms):

You people, especially liberal Erick Erickson. I am 56 in Iowa and I am a conservative. I am so sick of political correctness, I am mad as hell about what that n****r in the White House has done to our country, I want someone else who is mad as well. I want Trump, if you are smart, you will back him, not the whore. ...

Disinviting Trump just showed how skewed the political process is. Maybe you should ask the "C-word" not to ask gotcha questions. ...

Shame on you, Erick, she very clearly was on her period. I am a woman, I want my America back, and I refuse to let Fox News dictate to me who the president will be. Mr. Trump is not politically correct, he’s a great American. Eff you. ...

If you truly gave a crap about conservative values you would not disinvite Donald Trump with the testicles to be speaking my language and no one is more conservative than me so eff your liberal RedState joke of a conservative group. ...

I gave up Fox two years ago because of RINOs [Republicans In Name Only] … tell you what, Erick, have that vulgar lesbian on your show and ask her to comment on Donald Trump. She is a feminist whore of the hippie war ... only interested in the F-word and aborting things. Donald Trump is a great American. Cowards kneel before the N-word Democrat daily. You do certain things that require me to be on my knees in front of the president daily while he runs and disrupts his mouth to disrupt everyone. … Wow, RedScare Erick, showing his RINO colors in living color, just like the N-word in the White House. You’re a fake, like Krauthammer, the socialist Jew. ...

Are you sure you aren’t a Democrat? You’re going to be the next Bruce Jenner. ...

Please keep making Donald mad so he runs as a third party. I'll laugh my butt off. You people are going to be sorry you pissed him off. You won't need to worry about who the GOP candidate is. Keep taking orders from that communist A-holes.

Erickson said he had gotten “a few thousand” emails from Trump supporters since disinviting him, and “about a hundred more” as he read hate mail onstage because, according to Erickson, Trump had given out his email address.

“You know, I got to tell you guys,” Erickson said, rounding off his remarks. “I made the right decision.”

The irony, of course, is that the vitriol is no different from that which regularly appears in the comments at RedState. Erickson also has his own history of making disparaging remarks toward women, having calling Michelle Obama a “Marxist harpy” and Wendy Davis an “abortion Barbie.”

Erickson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
