An Georgia college student has gone missing while studying abroad in Costa Rica.
Erik L. Downes, a junior at Oglethorpe University, was swimming near Playa Dominical when he disappeared, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The student allegedly got caught in a riptide.
According to My Fox Atlanta, Downes is an active student at Oglethorpe, serving as vice president of the student government association and leading the student senate and majoring in pre-med.
The search for Downes is ongoing.
