Etch-A-Sketch Ad Features Evil, Grammatically Incorrect Cat (VIDEO)

Sometimes a product's newfound relevance comes from the strangest of places, like, say, a presidential gaffe, or a 20-second web video featuring an evil cat.

A May web ad for the Etch-A-Sketch, featured Thursday on BuzzFeed, contains the ingredients of a viral ad cocktail from the agency Team Detroit. Think cute, imprisoned dogs, dramatic handheld camerawork and a cat so evil he might as well be saying, "I can haz world domination?"

Ohio Art Co.'s Etch-A-Sketch toy has been in production since 1960, but received an unlikely boost in exposure in March when Mitt Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said the Republican presidential candidates policies were "almost like an Etch-a-Sketch" where you can "shake it up" and "start all over again." Ohio Art Co. saw revived interest and sales for the company's signature item, leading the group to ship a box of the toys to the Romney campaign as a thank you.

From the Geico gecko to the Aflac duck, animals -- real and digital -- get their fair share of advertising work. BuzzFeed notes that in the past month felines have advertised milk, boots and sustainable seafood.
