Just weeks after a college journalist made headlines for helping to break the Manti Te’o story for Deadspin, another young person is making a name for himself in the media world. Thirteen-year-old Ethan Sattler became one of the youngest White House political correspondents when he covered the inauguration on Monday, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The young writer has barely entered his teen years, but he already runs a blog, metnews.biz, set up his own limited liability corporation that he turned into a news organization, and made his White House debut at the inauguration press corps. In November, Sattler received approval from President Obama's office for a day pass to cover the inauguration from the White House Briefing Room.
But according to the aspiring journo, being part of the media world wasn't quite as action-packed as shows like "The Newsroom" make it out to be.
“It seems when you’re bombarded by the infotainment of modern journalism you think there’s something going on every second of every day,” Sattler told the Wall Street Journal from the Briefing Room. “Right now, there isn’t.”
Sattler isn't the only exceptional young writer to be granted a special visit the White House this month. Kid reporters from Highlights, National Geographic Kids, Scholastic and TIME for Kids interviewed the First Lady and Dr. Biden last Friday. The event was tied to their new initiative called "Joining Forces," aimed to provide support for military families.
