Etsy, the online marketplace for everything handmade has realeased an interesting short detailing the history of one of life's underrated joys: glitter.
The brief film traces glitter's creation in 1934 by a machinist looking to repurpose old materials all the way back to our ancestors in the paleolithic era. The cultural significance of glitter is also explored, with the material's use in fashion and in religious ceremonies (as a reflector of light) as emblematic of light versus dark.
"Glitter generally makes people happy," says Roger Ertle, VP of marketing for Glitterex. Aside from it being just something sparkly to play with as a child, glitter has a surprising amount of applications that one would seldom realize before viewing this delightful little documentary.
