Evan Lysacek's Childhood Dream Comes True: Was Named 'Prep Star Of The Week' In 2000 (VIDEO)

Evan Lysacek became the first U.S. man to win the Olympic gold medal in many years on Thursday night, upsetting defending champion Evgeni Plushenko. The win stunned some fans, but people familiar with Lysacek knew his hard work would pay off some day, since even as a teen in west suburban Naperville he was completely dedicated to skating.

In 2000, FOX Chicago named 14-year-old Lysacek their "Prep Star of the Week" after he was the
first male skater to win Novice and Junior championships back to back in 30 years.

"Every achievement is kind of the bottom of another ladder to climb," a young Lysacek told FOX.
"And every time it just gets better and harder and more exciting."
