A Georgetown Ph.D student died Monday after collapsing in a school gymnasium.
Evan Armstrong North, 28, was transported from the Yates Field House to Georgetown University Hospital, where he was declared dead, the Georgetown Hoya reports.
According to the Georgetown Voice, the school's vice president for student affairs, Todd Olson, notified the school of the student's death via email:

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
I am writing to share some sad news. Late on Monday afternoon Evan Armstrong North, a 28-year old doctoral student with roots in Maryland and Northern California, collapsed after exercising at Yates Field House. Yates staff responded immediately and tried to revive him before GERMS arrived. GERMS transported Evan to Georgetown University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Since then, University officials have been working to notify Evan's immediate family and provide support to them during this time.
Evan was pursuing his PhD in history at Georgetown, after earning his masters degree here. During his time on campus, he was engaged as a teaching assistant for a number of undergraduate history courses and was active within the history department's graduate program.

North's uncle, Dr. Arthur Tarantino, said that his nephew was "an extraordinary person."
North's cause of death remains unknown.
