Watch The Laptop Evolve Over 27 Years In 1 Satisfying GIF

Stop taking your 4-pound laptop for granted.

Stop taking your 4-pound laptop for granted. Your forefathers had to carry 24-pound laptops to school. Uphill. Both ways.

This helpful reminder comes via a blog post at tech-professional networking site Experts Exchange, detailing how the laptop has changed since the first portable computer was introduced in 1981. The first laptop, the Osborne 1, weighed 24 pounds and sold for $1,795 at the time; that's around $4,500, adjusted for inflation. In contrast, Apple's sleekest laptop today, the MacBook Air, weighs less than 3 pounds and costs between $899 and $1,199, depending on size and storage.

The Osborne 1 only had 64 KB of memory. A modern MacBook Pro has 8 GB of memory (that's 8,000,000 KB).

By 1984, the laptop had lost a ton of weight. The TRS-80 weighed just 4.25 pounds. It would take another 5 years for Apple to introduce its first laptop, the Macintosh Portable, which cost $6,500, or around $12,400 in today's dollars.

Be thankful for what you have, people.
