Ewan McGregor In 'Star Wars: Episode VII'? Actor Reportedly Set To Reprise Role As Obi-Wan Kenobi

Beloved 'Star Wars' Character Rumored To Return For 'Episode VII'

Another classic "Star Wars" character is reportedly returning for "Episode VII," as Ewan McGregor is rumored to be reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Latino Review reports that multiple sources involved with the new sequel say McGregor will return as a Force Ghost, given Obi-Wan was killed by Darth Vader in "A New Hope" and the new trilogy takes place after the events of "Return of the Jedi." HuffPost Entertainment reached out to McGregor's reps to confirm the report but has not yet heard back.

McGregor has expressed a willingness to return to his old intergalactic role, which he took on during the prequel trilogy. The actor told Digital Spy last year that he'd be "happy" to renew Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan is the second primary character to receive rumors of a resuscitation this week. Ian McDiarmid is reportedly returning to portray the sinister Emperor Palpatine. How exactly that character's inclusion will be explained is yet to be seen, as Palpatine famously died at the hands of Darth Vader in "Return of the Jedi."

If the reports prove true, McGregor and McDiarmid join Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and composer John Williams on the list of "Star Wars" veterans expected to head back to the series.

"Episode VII" is due in theaters summer 2015.
