Roger White's Paintings At The Rachel Uffner Gallery, NYC

EXHIBITION SPOTLIGHT: Roger White's Space Between Shapes, On View In NYC

WHO: Roger White

WHAT: Paintings

WHEN: October 29, 2010 - December 19, 2010

WHERE: Rachel Uffner Gallery
47 Orchard Street (between Grand and Hester)
New York, NY 10002

WHY: Roger White's new works pay a fine attention not only to the shapes he paints, but also to the space between these shapes, directing our eyes to the patterns created in his negative space. While his paintings are abstract, White's use of space makes viewers think about objects and their place in space.

For his second solo outing at the gallery, White will exhibit large-scale oil paintings as well as smaller works on paper, in which he continues his examination of the interstices between representation, abstraction and the tactile sphere of everyday life. While in the past, each of White's abstractions referred to a single patterned object (a quilt, a shirt, and so on), his new paintings suggest groupings of things in their relationships to each other, within the spaces they occupy.

Exhibition Spotlight is an at-a-glance look at an exhibit we think you should check out.
