Professional esports player Johnathan Wendel, aka Fatal1ty, unlocked the secrets to becoming a champion gamer, so we had to ask him for his top five gaming tips during CES 2016 in Las Vegas.

"I've been in the esports world for about 20 years now," he told What's Trending at the Monster Booth. "I started competitive gaming when I was about 12 or 13 years old, realized I was kind of good at the games and started traveling to tournaments and winning a lot of money."

His first tip is about specialization: "Pick one game that you want to be the best at, and focus on that one game only. Don't be too diverse." His game of choice was Quake, which took him to tournaments around the world.

He also recommends you practice a lot -- just like you do with real sports -- and try to gain a following across social media and on platforms like Twitch.

"All those avenues really help create celebrity. There are some guys who are not even really good at video games at all, and are huge celebrities online just because they play games entertainingly."

One really important tip is to get quality equipment that will help you reach your full potential as a gamer. Wendel teamed up with Monster to release a new line of gaming headphones, which debuted at CES 2016 and will be available to buy in April. "You can play all games on it - PC, Xbox, PS4, mobile gaming, all in one headset."
