At Riverdale Credit Union we are always looking for ways to help our members and our community. When we learned that 70 percent of all the school children in our county are eligible for the free lunch program and that many of them arrive in their classrooms hungry on Monday mornings, we knew we had to help change this sad situation. Our staff now gathers in the credit union's storage room every Wednesday morning to fill 100 bags with food and prepare them for distribution. On Fridays, a principal from one of the schools in the county arrives to collect the bags and give them to the families of select children in need for the weekend. Proper nourishment is something many take for granted but there are many children in need across the country. It means a lot to us to be able to give children in our area a chance to grow up strong and healthy as they focus on doing well in school. Hunger among children is something that we wish didn't happen but our hope is that others look to help in their area so we can help as many children as possible have the nourishment they need to grow and thrive.
