Ferrum College Lockdown Ordered When Two Armed Robberies Shake Virginia Campus

Virginia College On Lockdown After Armed Robberies

Administrators locked down Ferrum College, small and private college in Virginia, last night when two armed robberies had police on alert and students feeling apprehensive, according to NBC News.

The first reported robbery was a failed attempt, which occurred near a dorm on campus at about 9:15 p.m. About an hour later, another student reported getting robbed of a wallet near a soccer field. Both students were threatened with a gun, but each was unharmed.

Campus police sent three crime alerts to students overnight Thursday. One sent at 11:12 p.m. Thursday read: "Person with a gun. Stay inside / lock doors. Lockdown in progress."

Text alerts are usually sent in active shooter or hostage situations. The lockdown was lifted at 6:00 a.m. Friday morning, although a suspect has not been apprehended. Campus police say their investigation is ongoing.
