Although Fidel Castro has retreated from the public eye in recent years, he made a rare appearance last week to weigh in on one of the most important matters of our time: cheese.

The former president of Cuba met with a coterie of cheese industry professionals at a food industry research institute in the Havana suburb of Guatao on Friday, El País reports.

The meeting lasted for hours, according to RT, during which the panel Castro was on spoke about everything from restoring cheese integrity (yes) to climate change and world nutrition.

No word yet on whether the leader of the Cuban Revolution is pro or anti-night cheese, but we’ll keep you updated as this story develops.

Since leaving office in 2006 due to illness, Castro has kept a relatively low profile. RT reports that his last public appearance was in April, when he met with a group of visiting students from Venezuela.
