Firefighters in Northern California are playing dodgeball in full gear for their training.
Orland Fire Department crews are donning a breathing apparatus that weighs more than 40 pounds to play the schoolyard game, reports NBC News. Itβs so they learn how to better regulate oxygen supplies when tackling a blaze.
The department shared video of its unorthodox workout online Monday:
Dodging, ducking, dipping, diving and dodging in the heavy kit was βjust another tool for training,β the department explained on Facebook.
It taught rookies and reminded veterans βhow to regulate their oxygen use, as well as what it feels like to be in the gear working.β
