The cast of "The First Wives Club" is reuniting, according to an exclusive announcement from Deadline Hollywood.
Netflix told Deadline that Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler will join forces for "Divanation," a comedy centered around a singing group's reunion three decades after their "volatile" split.
Hawn, Keaton and Midler showed off their singing and dancing chops as a group in 1996's "The First Wives Club." As if we could forget that memorable rendition of "You Don't Own Me." Take it away, girls!
Earlier this year, Hawn finally addressed why the gang never appeared in a sequel to "First Wives Club."
"We were all women of a certain age, and everyone took a cut in salary to do it so the studio could make what it needed. We all took a smaller back end than usual and a much smaller front end," said Hawn in an interview with Harvard Business Review. "And we ended up doing incredibly well. The movie was hugely successful. It made a lot of money. We were on the cover of Time magazine."
But, as Hawn explained it, salary and sexism prevented a second movie.
"But two years later, when the studio came back with a sequel, they wanted to offer us exactly the same deal. We went back to ground zero," said Hawn to HBR. "Had three men come in there, they would have upped their salaries without even thinking about it. But the fear of women's movies is embedded in the culture."
