FIU Frat Pi Kappa Alpha Suspended For Being Dumb Enough To Sell Drugs On Facebook

Frat Caught Using Facebook To Sell Drugs

Florida International University suspended the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity this week after Facebook posts by fraternity members came to light about selling and using drugs, hazing and making sexist statements about women.

The Miami-based public university became aware of the postings recently, the Miami Herald reports, and the administration and police are investigating. The FIU Pike Facebook page has since been deleted.

"The university is taking this information very seriously because it suggests possible Student Code of Conduct violations," FIU said in a statement. "The university took prompt action and placed the fraternity on interim suspension pending the outcome of investigations by appropriate university departments, including the police. As a result, the fraternity has been instructed to cease all meetings and events."

The Herald and the Miami New Times said they received copies of 70 screenshots from the frat's Facebook page through an anonymous email.

The screenshots show repeated postings about taking and selling study drugs, including the prescription stimulant Adderall. One person notifies frat brothers about the availability of weed brownies. Another posts a request for cocaine. Several posts showed photographs of topless women. According to both the Herald and the New Times, one person suggested a topless photo was taken when the woman was 17 years old.

"The International Fraternity had no previous knowledge of this Facebook group and was informed of its existence on Tuesday, August 20, 2013," Pi Kappa Alpha's national organization told the New Times. "The International Fraternity has been assured of the chapter's full compliance with the temporary suspension and subsequent investigation."

Incredibly, one screenshot posted by the Herald shows a frat brother warning about being careful with Facebook. The advice appears to have been ignored.
