"When stress is at its highest, know it can only go down."

We all know that this is the most wonderful time of the year. (And if we forget, we usually hear the song about five times daily to remind us.)

But it can also be a hair-pulling, stress-inducing, anxiety-producing time.

If you are already feeling anxious, or are worried the coming days may bring out the stressed and crazed side of you -- or the holiday blues -- here are five holiday mantras to get you through these next couple of weeks!

1. "I am grateful for this moment with my family and friends."

Repeat these words when you find yourself surrounded by dozens of people who are suddenly talking at the same time, bumping into one another or just fighting for the last piece of pie.

2. "I give love to everyone I encounter."

This affirmation is helpful when you are having a conversation with the relative who somehow knows exactly how to push and push your buttons -- you know the one. Instead of snapping back, say this mantra over and over.

3. "I am exactly where I am supposed to be right now."

Not all of us have a big family or a group or friends to spend the holiday with. Some of us may even be away from loved ones during this time of year. Use this mantra to reassure yourself that where you are is where you are meant to be.

4. "I let go of this year and embrace what's next. A new year means a new beginning."

If this last year wasn't your favorite and you find yourself worrying about what's next, remind yourself that any day, anything is possible. A new year means new possibilities.

5. "I give thanks for my many blessings and the ones on their way."

Sometimes being around our loved ones and seeing the ways in which we are fortunate can make us fear moving forward. What if the next year is not as good or as happy as this one? Repeat this mantra to keep you in a grateful, positive, peaceful state.

The holidays are meant to be a joyful time and sometimes having a mantra to repeat can help keep us present and thankful.
