This new presidency has me a little more than concerned. As a woman, soon to be college graduate with several loans, soon to be a public-school teacher, and as a human who wants basic human rights for everyone, I go day by day choosing to laugh or cry. One of the moments that got to me throughout the entire campaigning process last year was one of Mr. Trump’s more graphically offensive remarks about women (I guarantee we each thought of a different remark because, let’s face it all of them were graphically offensive). The one I am referring to now however, is the quote caught on video of Mr. Trump threatening to grab a woman by the pussy. Even typing this I’m astounded that he even got elected. I have the honor and privilege of being surrounded by several amazing, strong, badass women in my life and if any of them were to be talked at like this, I personally know my response would not be considered civil. Not only does this remark open women up to violence with no justice, but it also promotes the notion that our bodies don’t belong to us. My reaction would not be civil, because our new government believes that I, as a woman, should tolerate the abuse, in fact I should like the fact that a man grabbed my pussy. And that is disgusting.

The other real kicker about this whole moment in history, is that it shines such a strong light on the double standard for all women. If I were to run for president and get caught on camera telling one of my buddies that I was going to grab a man by the balls, there is no way I could have gotten elected. The media coverage chose to cover an already investigated email scandal and stupid twitter posts, then to face head on the crude remarks towards women.

As we dawn on the inauguration of a man, many of us will never support, I felt that we deserved a response to being grabbed by the pussy. Everyone around me is upset, so I gave them a voice. I asked, “In five words, what does ‘grab her by the pussy’ mean to you? Here was the outcome:

“My consent does not matter.”

“Women are nothing but objects.”

“Women are objects for men.”

“Women don’t control their bodies.”

“Men have control over women.”

“You got me fired up.”

“Use and then dispose me.”

“A representation of rape culture.”

“Nothing more than pocket pussies.”

“Men’s dominance over female temple.”

“What year are we in?.”

“What can help me now?”

“Did we forget rape whistles?”

“Democracy isn’t safe for women.”

“My Government forgot about me.”

“My Curves are not my Own.”

We are all together. All men and women, all religions and ethnicities, whether you come from a billionaire mansion, or don’t know where you are going to eat dinner, we are all in this, and we all should have a voice. Whether you can make it to the rallies happening nationwide in honor of women or you can sit down and talk with someone in your life who doesn’t see why people are upset, you have a voice and you can inspire change. The time is now. Let us not be broken by our differences, but glued together by the belief that change is possible.
