Kindhearted cops in Wisconsin were appalled when thieves stole an American flag belonging to a World War II veteran's widow.
The unidentified woman had only recently raised the emblem at her Green Bay home in honor of her husband, who had died a short time ago.
So officers from Green Bay Police Department decided to go out and buy her a new flag, which they were pictured raising outside her house on Friday:
"Officer Rob Ecke heard the story and went out and purchased a new American flag to post on her house," the department wrote on Facebook. "Thank you to officers Ecke, Thorseson, Lt. Strouf and Capt. Muraski for righting this wrong."
The heartwarming images are now going viral.
The Huffington Post has reached out for further information on the investigation of the theft.
Susan Llamera, who says she is the victim's oldest granddaughter, later thanked the department for its gesture.
"This is a big thank you from her oldest granddaughter and family in Florida it means so much to us that are so far away and feel helpless," she wrote on Facebook. "Your dedication and generosity to my grandmother is greatly appreciated. ... And for the one that stole the flag, shame on you to do this."
The department replied by saying that her grandmother was a "wonderful young lady” and that it was "happy to help" her honor her grandfather.
