The results are in.

Since here in Florida we're all about rivalries, U.S. News & World Report's annual "Best Colleges" rankings for 2014, can only mean one thing: time to see which of Florida's "big three" universities reigns supreme.

The University of Miami topped all Florida schools in the "National University Rankings" list, notching a spot at no. 47, tied with New York City's Yeshiva University.

Although this is the fourth year in a row the private Coral Gables school dominates the state, Miami is showing signs of vulnerability: UM was ranked 44th in 2013, down from a high of 38th in 2011.

Of course, the small slide could be because this year U.S. News & World Report changed their methodology for assigning rank.

There's better news for Florida's big state schools, however: the University of Florida is creeping up behind "The U," landing the 49th spot in a three-way tie with Northeastern University and the University of California-Irvine.

The move puts UF finally among the Top 50, up from 54th in 2012 and 58th in 2011.

Last year Florida State University broke into the Top 100 for the first time ever -- and this year the Tallahassee school rose six spots to 91st -- not bad for a school that was no. 101 in 2011.

Of course, there's always football performance to use as an unofficial determining factor for school rankings. Heading into week three of college football, Florida State holds the number 10 spot in AP Top 25 list, while Miami is 15 followed by Florida at number 18.*

Notre Dame? 21. Enough said.

*That's because, in case you forgot, the Hurricanes beat the Gators on Saturday. Just sayin'!
