While 68 dead Burmese pythons didn't make much of a dent in their pervasive South Florida population, officials say Florida's infamous Python Challenge hunt accomplished one major objective: awareness of invasive species.

The snakes are among the biggest threats to native wildlife in Florida's Everglades, suspected in declining populations of bobcats, rabbits, and opossums. Although the pythons grab most of the attention, there are hundreds of invasive and non-native animal species moving in on the natural wonders of the Sunshine State.
