3 Flower Headband Lessons We've Learned From Katy Perry (PHOTOS)

What We Can Learn From Katy Perry's Flower Headband

The last time we remember wearing a flower headband was back in the day as a flower girl. (Yeah, we had no say about the gigantic bulbs that appeared to be growing from our curly crowns.) But Katy Perry is giving the youthful hair accessory a try as a grown-up.

While making promo rounds for "The Smurfs 2," the singer has sported blue outfits that match her Smurfette character, including this Monique Lhuillier lace dress. Perry put her playful spin on the ladylike look with a blue flower headband, striped sunglasses and chandelier earrings.

Is it too much? Let's dissect how Perry's styling her headband:

1. The blue flower headband looks like it was made to match the Lhuillier Spring 2013 frock. It adds a pop of color to Perry's jet black hair, however, it clashes with her retro-inspired sunnies and jewelry. (We're waiting to hear the instrumental to "Here Comes the Bride.")

2. By removing her sunglasses and showing off her stunning profile, Perry's natural beauty comes through. And the flower headband doesn't come as childish.

3. Another trick to sporting a flower headband would be to choose a smaller style or to pair it with tousled hair for a less matronly finish.
