The single-story, brick home once owned by Cicero's former town president Betty Loren-Maltese is set to go on the auction block at noon on Thursday and, if you're lucky enough to be the winning bidder, you'll even be treated to lunch with the now infamous woman who served six years in prison after being convicted of a $12 million mob-related insurance scam.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Loren-Maltese's 1,200-square-foot 3818 S. Austin home was visited by some 32 groups of people during its Sunday open house, few of whom recognized the name of its previous owner.
According to its listing with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the home has 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms and comes with a two-car detached garage, in addition to a covered patio and fence. The house was built 31 years ago.
In addition to the Cicero house, three other properties of Loren-Maltese's -- including a larger home in Las Vegas and two properties in Indiana -- were also seized by the government, according to the Sun-Times. Proceeds from the Cicero auction will chip away at the $8.3 million she reportedly still owes in restitution.
Loren-Maltese has also offered to go to lunch with the winning bidder from Thursday auction, according to ABC7.
The former Cicero town president was back in the news last month following the conviction of former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, whom Loren-Maltese told the Chicago Tribune was in for a bit of a shell shock upon being imprisoned because "a lot of prisoners feel (politicians) might even be responsible for them being in prison."
