WASHINGTON -- The summer music tradition appropriate for the whole family returns Monday, June 18.
The Fort Reno summer concert series has long been a D.C. music destination for punk rockers and post-punk rockers -- 40-some years after the shows began, it's now for families of punk rock kids with post-punk dads, too.
All ages, no drugs or alcohol, free to all and pet friendly, the Fort Reno series presents up and coming bands alongside established acts. This year's series begins with a trio of acts that wouldn't belong on the same bill anywhere else.
Teen Mom plays jingly, comfortable pop songs. For fans of Mates of States, Television (the band) and bicycling in the wind (the activity), Alarms and Controls is a Dischord Records band that plays exactly the type of post-rock you'd want to hear from a Dischord Records band. Upforth is a group of teenagers playing progressive rock that doesn't sound like it's being made by a group of teenagers.
The remaining dates and performers have yet to be announced. The Twitter and Facebook pages appear to be updated more regularly than the Fort Reno website.
Fort Reno is located blocks north of the Tenleytown-AU Metro stop on the Red Line, on Chesapeake Street and Nebraska Avenue NW.
