‘Four Agreements' Author Don Miguel Ruiz: Don't Take Things Personally (VIDEO)

WATCH: How To Stop Taking Things Personally

When another person projects negative energy onto you -- whether they come to you in anger, act mean-spirited or say unkind things about you -- it's time to turn to Four Agreements author don Miguel Ruiz’s second agreement: Don’t take things personally.

In this clip from a recent episode of “Super Soul Sunday,” Oprah and Ruiz discuss the challenge -- and importance -- of not taking things to heart. “[It’s] my favorite of the four agreements,” says Oprah. “’Taking things personally,’ you say, ‘is the maximum expression of selfishness because we make the assumption that everything is about me.’”

“The same way that you are the main character of your story, you are only a secondary character in everybody else’s story,” says Ruiz. In the clip, he also shares profound advice with a customer service representative who must deal with difficult customers.

Super Soul Sunday” airs on Sundays at 11 a.m. ET on OWN.
