Fox News Defends Chris Christie Against Mainstream Media

Fox News' Brian Kilmeade apparently is not familiar with New York tabloids.

The "Fox & Friends" host scolded the New York Daily News Thursday morning for how it reported on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) taking the field at Yankee Stadium Wednesday night to honor New York City Police Department officers killed on duty. The paper used the headline "Fatter Up!" and a photo of Christie winding up for a pitch:

"It is so out of bounds," Kilmeade said of the headline. "How unbelievable is that. ... If you want to say that he's big or something like that, there's ways to -- I don't think it's necessary!"

"Talk about missing the ball," Elisabeth Hasselbeck said.

"Well, he's a conservative, so he's just naturally targeted by the mainstream media," co-host Steve Doocy added.

The NY Daily News, of course, has a reputation for running offensive and malicious front pages -- giving no one a pass.

Hasselbeck praised Christie for his involvement in the game, arguing that Mayor Bill de Blasio "can't even bunt for the NYPD right now."
