Fox News Host 'Appalled' At Patricia Arquette's Oscar Speech For Women's Rights

While most people were waving their arms in praise for actress Patricia Arquette's call for gender pay equality during her Oscar victory speech Sunday night, one Fox News host wished we could just go back to the way the award show used to be -- you know, when it had "elegance" and "class."

Fox News' Stacey Dash said Arquette's champion for equality missed the mark because the Equal Pay Act signed by President John F. Kennedy in 1963 is "still in effect."

"I was appalled," Dash said. "I could not believe it. I mean, Patricia Arquette needs to do her history."

And yet, so much data says that Dash may need to do some research of her own. Women are paid an average of 78 cents to every dollar that men earn. One study by the American Association of University Women found that gender pay inequality exists in all 50 states.

Further, women make up only 14.6 percent of top executive officer positions at Fortune 500 companies, according to the research company Catalyst. The pay gap is real. There's no denying it.

Hollywood has a wage problem of its own, with the salary of female actresses dropping off after age 34, while male actors tend to not hit peak salary until age 51, according to a study published in the Journal of Management Inquiry.

But Dash said that as an actress herself, she prefers an Oscars that has "glamour" and "elegance" rather than powerful cries for equal pay.

"I didn't get the memo that I didn't have any rights," she added.
