We're used to seeing comedienne Fran Drescher laughing it up with her megawatt smile, but in a candid interview the actress revealed that her cancer diagnosis flattened her.

"Why me?" Drescher, 58, says she thought to herself, in an interview with HuffPost Rise. She was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2000 after multiple visits with doctors. At the time, Drescher says she was so hopeless, she wondered if she'd live long enough to get through a tube of new mascara.

But through her sense of humor, she found strength. She wrote a book about her experience and started a charity with the same name, Cancer Schmancer, to show that "cancer is not the boss of me."

Watch the video above to learn more about Drescher's journey and how she reached her turning point.
