PHOTOS: Franca Sozzani Awarded French Legion Of Honor

Congratulazioni, Franca Sozzani!

The editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia was honored today with the Legion of Honour, the highest decoration awarded by France's government.

Sozzani received her the medal from President Nicolas Sarkozy himself at the Élysée Palace and was praised not only for her talent but for being a risk-taker, someone who is not afraid of making waves on the way to making change.

Prior to the formal ceremony, Franca was joined at the Italian embassy in Paris by a slew of fashion friends, including Peter Lindbergh, Suzy Menkes, Karl Lagerfeld, Haider Ackermann, Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana... and Carla Bruni!

We know all this, of course, from Twitter: in typical fashion, Franca livetweeted the entire event, reminding us just how open, accessible and web savvy this elite fashionista is. More than any other Vogue editor, Franca has embraced the Internet as a platform for sharing her love of fashion, tweeting and blogging (for both Vogue Italia and The Huffington Post) about the industry's hottest topics.

Check out Franca receiving the major honor below... and of course, head to Vogue.it to read all about it and see more behind-the-scenes pics!
