Anyone can pay a visit to a landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but not everyone can actually live in one.
With the historic Frances J. Dewes house in Lincoln Park is currently on the market, calling a piece of history "home" is a possibility now--though bragging rights will set the buyer back nearly $10 million bucks.

Listed by Koenig & Strey Real Living for $9.9 million, the asking price comes with more than just the historical significance attached to the ornate German Baroque-styled mansion.
The 116-year-old beauty, originally built for Chicago brewer and millionaire Frances J. Dewes, is a luxe three-story stunner of 16 rooms and a whopping eight fireplaces. Yet features like the sauna, library and fitness room are practically pedestrian compared to the real bells and whistles of the home.
Patterns in the woodworking, flooring and ceilings are unique to every room in the house. The countertops, according to the Tribune, are made of Jerusalem Gold marble and Iroko hardwood from Africa. Add to that the decorative art glass and stained glass, and it's easy to see why the home was given the National Register of Historic Places stamp of approval.
Outside, the mansion is fringed by an expansive brick patio, with ornamental cornices, statues and lintels carved into the stonework. Though far less pretty, one feature is perhaps even more rare that the elaborate carvings: a roomy four-car garage.
The mansion was formerly the site of weddings and private parties, but after a full restoration that took six years, the amazing piece of architecture near Wrightwood and Hampden could to be one lucky (and deep-pocketed) buyer's home sweet home.
