After meeting Frank Lloyd Wright, A. W. Gridley recruited the legendary architect to build him a home in suburban Batavia in 1906. Though Gridley could not afford to stay in the home very long, it has been well-maintained over the years and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Gridley House, also known as the Ravine House, is one of Wright's most spacious prairie houses, according to a Wright conservation group, and now, it's for sale.
With 5,100 square feet of living space, five bedrooms, three full baths and three powder rooms, the Batavia home sits on a whopping 2.3 acres of land.
The current homeowner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the large and numerous windows and surrounding rolling ravines and wildflowers make the space peaceful and one with nature.
Though its historic charm remains, the home also includes a new gourmet kitchen, media room, game room, art studio, ironwood veranda and three original Wright Roman fireplaces.
The home is currently listed for $1.45 million.
