UTC Greek Community Starts Online Fundraiser For Chattanooga Shooting Victims

The fraternities and sororities of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga started an online fundraiser this week following a nearby shooting at two military facilities.

The alleged shooter, Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, 24, killed four Marines and wounded several others when he reportedly opened fire at a Naval reserve center and a military recruiting location on Thursday. The suspected gunman graduated from UTC in 2012.

Rob Owens, a rising senior in the UTC chapter of Kappa Alpha Order, launched an online fundraiser on Tilt.com Thursday to send money to the families of the victims:

The entire Chattanooga community has been torn apart today by an unimaginable tragedy. A senseless crime. Though many details are still unknown, it is clear that we as a whole need to support our fallen heroes. We are deeply saddened by the deaths and injuries to our officers in uniform.

Currently, the URL chattanoogaheroes.com is redirecting to the online fundraiser. As of Friday morning, more than $1,100 had been raised.
