Freddy Jaramillo Of Cortez Goes On Backhoe Rampage

A disgruntled and intoxicated Cortez man took out his frustration on Saturday afternoon by going on a rampage with his backhoe damaging a motel and flipping a car over.

According to the Durango Herald Freddy Jaramillo, 44, had been hired by America's Best Value Inn to do some work in exchange for him to work at the motel.

Police spokeswoman Angelia Hermann said the owner of the hotel had just ended the arrangement prior to Jaramillo's rampage. She also said that he flipped a green Buick sedan on its roof with a John Deere backhoe/loader and damaged the laundry/boiler room/vending machine room of the hotel.

It was also reported that Jaramillo tried to run down a motel employee and slammed into a large pine tree instead. The tree was entirely uprooted and several employees were able to wrestle him out of the backhoe.

Once police arrived to the scene Jaramillo was first taken to the emergency room to sober up and check for sore or broken ribs. He is currently < a href=http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=133382&provider=top&catid=188>being held at the Montezuma County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, criminal mischief and menacing.
