Cuba has so much to offer that it’s hard to fit everything on your vacation itinerary. To make it a little easier, here are some of my favorite activities in Havana, Cuba:

1. Walk the streets of Old Havana. Whether it’s the colonial architecture, the colorful streets or the friendly people, you’ll never get bored here! We discovered barbershops by peaking inside doors and strolled through community parks with lush green trees. The best part for me were the people who make Havana such a vibrant place to visit.

2. Take a ride in a classic car taxi. In Old Havana, you’ll have a large selection of classic cars. It’s actually almost impossible to find newer cars on the island, which didn’t bother me because I much preferred the experience of the older cars. Plus, our drivers played Reggaeton as my friends and I danced in the backseat!

3. Ride in a bike taxi. If you’re traveling shorter distances around Old Havana, you can take a bike taxi. Some of them even have radios! Our driver let us try taking his taxi for a spin, which was a lot of fun. It’s harder than it looks, though!

4. Visit the Art Market. Old Havana has an amazing art market that’s almost the size of a Walmart! This is a great place to stock up on souvenirs to bring home to family and friends. It’s filled with original paintings by Cuban artists, handmade jewelry and clothes, Cuban coasters, wooden carvings and a lot more.

5. Join an architecture tour. Havana has some of the most beautiful architecture in the world. Join a tour to learn more about its history. Some of them even donate the profits to restoring buildings in Old Havana and strengthening the community.

6. Go dancing. Cuba is known for its long history of music and dance. My friends and I ran across a dance studio and decided to take a Cuban salsa dancing class! After class, our teachers took us to a place called La Casa de Musica. We went to their earlier event (which is when the locals go) and had so much fun dancing!

Visit the Necropolis. One afternoon, we decided to visit the Christopher Columbus Necropolis (cemetery) or Colon Cemetery, which is famous for its opulent gravestones.

Million Mile Secrets

A trip to Cuba isn’t complete without a visit to the beach!

1. Playa Coral. At Playa Coral we signed-up for a group snorkeling tour. During the tour we saw a lot of interesting coral and followed schools of fish zig-zagging through the water.

2. Playa del Este. It was a very relaxing day on the beach. The sunset was beautiful as we rode along Oceanside Street taking in the views.
