Gallup's 'LGBT By State' Poll: Washington D.C. Has Highest Percentage Of Openly Gay Residents

U.S. States With Biggest Gay Populations Revealed

Good news for Washington D.C.'s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender residents: you are most definitely not alone.

A Gallup Politics poll has revealed that a full 10 percent of the U.S. capital's population personally identifies as LGBT. D.C., which nabbed the top spot, was up five full percentage points from Hawaii, which came in second place with five percent of its population identifying as LGBT.

On the flip side, a mere 1.7 percent of North Dakota residents polled identified as LGBT, while Montana was barely ahead with 2.6 percent.

Nonetheless, Gallup officials admitted that their research contained some flaws from the get-go. "One limitation of this approach is that it is not possible to separately consider differences among lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, or transgender individuals," they wrote.
