'Game Of Thrones' Actress Leaves Door Open On That Twins Theory

Excitement is coming ...
HBO

Snow way!

One of the wildest “Game of Thrones” theories thus far has been that Meera Reed is Jon Snow’s twin. As ridiculous as it sounds, the theory does have a lot of evidence.

From George R.R. Martin’s books, we’re led to believe that Ned Stark and Howland Reed, supposedly Meera’s father, were the only two survivors from the Tower of Joy. We know that’s where Jon Snow was born, and he went on to live with Ned. So, if Jon Snow had a twin sibling, it’d make sense that the pair would be split up and the other would go with Howland Reed. That would also explain why Howland, who was supposed to be Ned’s friend, hasn’t seen Ned or visited Winterfell in the years after the Tower of Joy.

This theory was on the internet for a while, but it was fueled last year after a comment from Redditor ghostchief inspired The Huffington Post to look into evidence of a possible twin, and we found out that both Jon Snow and Meera Reed are the same age, verified by the appendices in Martin’s books. Also, cast comments added evidence, such as Alfie Allen, aka Theon Greyjoy, saying Jon Snow’s parentage involves a “Luke Skywalker situation.” (Luke and Leia discover they’re siblings in the “Star Wars” franchise, duh!)

The theory seemed to be debunked in Season 6 after we finally got to see the Tower of Joy scene, and there was only one baby shown: Jon Snow. But, just like Jon Snow, the idea may be coming back from the dead.

While at the HBO’s fan event in New York to celebrate the Season 6 DVD on Friday, we caught up with Meera Reed herself, actress Ellie Kendrick. Though she says the Tower of Joy scene seems “conclusive,” she’s not shutting the door on the theory just yet.

“’Game of Thrones’ always surprises us. I’m always surprised! I never have any idea of what’s going to happen next. I never rule anything out,” said the actress.

On the Tower of Joy scene from Season 6, Kendrick added, “It seems quite conclusive in terms of Jon’s parentage. I don’t know. We’ve still never really seen where Jojen and Meera [Reed] have come from. We know a little tiny bit about her father. We don’t know anything about her mother, really. So yeah, I’m excited to find out who her parents are and what the situation is.”

If we’re being honest, Meera Reed and Jon Snow do resemble each other. The brown eyes. The wild, curly hair. The facial expressions. Guys, this could be a real thing!

Is Meera Jon Snow’s twin sister? For now, we know nothing.
