George R.R. Martin Says 'GoT' Season 5 Deaths Will Surprise Book Readers

It's no news that HBO's "Game of Thrones" is filled with shocking deaths that cause major freakouts among fans. Those who've read George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series, though, are usually ahead of the game with what deaths to expect.

However, Martin revealed at the Writers Guild of America Awards on Saturday that all fans are in for big surprises in "GoT" Season 5. “People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy," Martin told Showbiz411. "Everybody better be on their toes."

The author said on "Conan" last year that there were four characters killed on the show who are still alive in his books. Some of those, just to name a few, include (spoiler alert) Joyeuse Erenford, one of Walder Frey's wives, Daenerys' handmaiden Irri, and Xaro Xhoan Daxos, a merchant of Qarth.

Sophie Turner already told us that Sansa's "super traumatic" Season 5 scene will be more shocking than the Red Wedding, so it's best to be ready for anything. Besides, all men must die.

"Game of Thrones" Season 5 returns April 12 on HBO.
