Fox Sports has indefinitely suspended Gary Payton amid allegations he physically abused a woman multiple times in the Seattle area in January.

In a statement provided to The Huffington Post, Fox Sports said Payton will be suspended until the completion of an internal investigation:

Regardless of the circumstance, domestic violence is abhorrent and inexcusable and FOX takes these accusations very seriously. As soon as we were made aware of the claim, we began an internal investigation. Mr. Payton was suspended immediately pending the completion of the investigation. Out of respect for both parties we will not be making any additional statements.

Payton allegedly repeatedly assaulted Trishtan Williams the night of an awards function to which she was invited as his date. Payton’s agent has denied the charges, saying the lawsuit is an attempt to gain money from the Hall of Fame point guard.

News of the allegations was first reported by TMZ Sports.
