TJ Montoya, Gay Teen, Talks The Bible And Homosexuality

WATCH: A Gay Teens Explains What The Bible REALLY Says About Homosexuality

As we all know, for as long as the queer rights movement has received mainstream attention, individuals have used the Bible to try and justify denying LGBT people access to the same rights as non-queer people.

In this video, 18-year-old TJ Montoya discusses the conclusions he has reached as a self-identifying gay Christian after being out of the closet for five years. This well-researched and nuanced discussion serves as a response to Christians who don't necessarily understand what the Bible really has to say about same-sex attraction.

“It's been a long journey,” Montoya says referring to the five years it's been since he came out of the closet, “but it truly does get better. So I decided to make a video explaining what the Bible actually says about homosexuality.”

Videos such as this are crucial for the religious community, as displayed by a religious family's horrifying and violent reaction to their son's coming out that went viral last week.

There are also a number of other resources available about this topic, such as a video produced by lesbian vlogger Arielle Scarcella and activist Matthew Vines called "7 Bible Quotes In Support Of Same Sex Relationships." Head here to see for yourself.

CLARIFICATION: A previous version of this story reported that Montoya is 20 years old when he is, in fact, 18. This has been changed.
