Jesus Christ Would Command Gay Married Couples To Get Divorced: Gordon Klingenschmitt

Jesus Would Command Married Gay Couples 'To Get Divorced Immediately,' Former Navy Chaplain Claims

A former Navy chaplain who's made headlines in recent months for a series of bizarre anti-gay declarations is at it again, this time denouncing same-sex marriage.

As Right Wing Watch first reported, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt told listeners on on an installment of his "Pray In Jesus Name" program that God would "never bless" a same-sex union, and that Jesus would command married lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) couples to get divorced.

Pointing to a Bible passage, Klingenschmitt said, "What Jesus is saying here is that any sex outside the confines of one man and one woman is adultery and it is fornication. You must be divorced when this happens."

He then added, "If He were providing marriage counseling to two gay men who were married ... Jesus would command them to get divorced immediately."

Klingenschmitt's remarks should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the former Navy chaplain's history of anti-gay rhetoric. Last month, he suggested that a gay man depicted in what appeared to be a stock photograph of two fathers seemed to be "lusting" over an infant.

In August, he argued in favor of discrimination against the LGBT community.

"If your heart is full of corruption or sin or immorality -- in this case, homosexuality -- then you should be discriminated against," Klingenschmitt said at the time, as also originally reported by Right Wing Watch.
