'Out In The Lineup,' Gay Surfer Documentary, Launches Kickstarter Campaign (VIDEO)

WATCH: A Gay Surfers Documentary?

Gay surfers are considered the community's unicorns -- a bit of an urban legend. But a new documentary is aiming to shed light on these sun-kissed denizens of the coast.

Thomas Castets, creator of the social network GaySurfers.net, decided to make "Out in the Lineup," a documentary "about two gay surfers, David and Thomas, who set off on a global journey to uncover the taboo of homosexuality in surfing." The documentary features interviews with known figures like Barney Frank and celebrities in the surfing world like Cori Schumacher and Barton Lynch.

Castets' has now started a Kickstarter campaign to finish the film and help fund post-production and distribution for the film. There are plenty of incentives for supporting the film such as "Out in the Lineup" merch, copies of the film on DVD or Blu-ray and surf sessions with Thomas and David who star in the film.

Since launching GaySurfers.net almost four years ago the site has grown to have over 5,000 members from countries around the world, and the site often coordinates surfing trips and meet-ups for its members.
