The American Family Association 's Bryan Fischer minced few words when it came to expressing his stance on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people who seek public office.
Fischer, whose anti-LGBT declarations have become a near-weekly staple of his "Focal Point" radio show, took to the airwaves again following news of Texas Governor Rick Perry's indictment, Right Wing Watch first reported.
Perry was indicted for abuse of power over efforts to force Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, who is openly gay, to resign from office after a drunk-driving arrest.
Fischer pointed to Lehmberg's sexuality in his broadcast, noting, "My view of public service is that somebody who is engaged in sexually deviant behavior is not qualified to hold public office."
Comparing LGBT people both to rapists and pedophiles, he added, "Now lesbianism is sexually deviant behavior because it deviates from God's plan and design for human sexually. So I believe that this is a person who, because she's involved in sexually deviant behavior, should be, ought to be disqualified from public service."
Last month, Fischer slammed LGBT rights advocates as "belligerent" and "intolerant bullies" who represented a "tiny little minority" of the U.S. population in a broadcast.
He also denounced Burger King's LGBT-friendly "Proud Whopper" campaign, arguing that the fast food franchise's was a "bonehead move from a marketing standpoint."
"When people sit down to eat a hamburger, the last thing they want to be thinking about is two guys having sex," Fischer noted at the time.
