Kiss frontman Gene Simmons endorsed Republican presidential primary candidate Mitt Romney on Tuesday in an interview with Fox News, expressing regret over his endorsement of President Barack Obama in 2008.
When asked by host Gretchen Carlson who his pick was for president, Simmons responded, "Strictly speaking on the economy and in my humble opinion, Mitt Romney."
Particularly impressed with Romney’s business experience, Simmons noted that he thought Romney had the best chance at fixing the nation's economy. “America is a business and should be run by a businessman,” Simmons said.
Simmons appeared on the show Tuesday morning to promote his new restaurant chain, but he took the opportunity to give his analysis of the presidential race, as well as to express regret for backing Obama during the previous presidential election cycle.
"The reason sometimes Republicans get in -- including the Senate, House and presidency -- is because Americans, smartly, and I applaud them for doing so, vote on the issues and not the party," the musician said.
Simmons is not the first rock star to endorse a Republican candidate during this election cycle. In February, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine put his support behind Rick Santorum, who is currently trailing behind Romney in the race to win delegates.
Romney is currently the Republican primary frontrunner, and according to recent polls is expected to pull out a win in Wisconsin on Tuesday.
