George Huguely Lied About His Whereabouts The Night Of Yeardley Love's Death

Former UVA Lacrosse Player Lied About His Whereabouts The Night Of His Girlfriend's Death

The night his girlfriend died from blunt force trauma to the head, George Huguely lied about his whereabouts to his friend, according to testimony in his trial Wednesday.

Former UVA lacrosse player Huguely, 24, is accused of murdering his ex girlfriend, Yeardley Love, 22, on May 3rd 2010. He faces 6 charges in connection with her death including first degree murder.

The Washington Post has more on the testimony of Huguely's friend Ken Clausen,:

Clausen testified that about 11:40 p.m. on May 2, 2010, he and Kevin Carroll, Huguely's then-roommate, went to buy beer -- a trip he estimated lasted about 20 minutes. He said after they returned, Huguely walked in and they asked where he had been.

Huguely told them he had been in a downstairs apartment hanging out with two other lacrosse players, one of whom he said was drunk, Clausen said. Clausen testified that he "thought that was kind of strange" because he knew that player was working on a class paper that night. He said Carroll then called the second player, who said he wasn't visiting the downstairs apartment.

"When we figured out he was lying about what he said, or at least it was not adding up, it seemed strange," Clausen testified. "There was no reason to lie about something like that."

Huguely told later told police went went to Love's room to talk, when they got into an argument because she was being "defensive." He told police that they "wrestled" and that he may have "grabbed her neck" but that when he left she was standing. Two hours after he left Love she was found lying in a pool of her own blood, dead of blunt force trauma to the head, experts have testified.

The prosecution rested today after calling many of Huguely's friends and several experts to the stand.

Huguely's defense attorney Francis McQ. Lawrence commenced hisargument by asking the state to drop all charges against Huguely. The state declined.

"There is ample evidence to support a jury finding in favor of all of the indictments," the judge reportedly said.

The trial was scheduled to end on Friday but might stretch until next week.
